A bit about me
My background working in mental health started in 2013 when I enlisted in the Air Force as a Mental Health Technician/Addiction Counselor, primarily working with other active duty personnel. I worked in that capacity for 10 years, before deciding to further my education in the field of mental health counseling getting an LMSW. Although I may not have taken the most direct path to becoming a psychotherapist, I believe my life experiences, travel, and work with diverse populations in the military is a huge asset that has cultivated great empathy and understanding when it comes to my current work. I hope my calming energy and practical approach will make people feel safe, accepted, and supported through our work together.

Areas of Special Interest & Training
I have a passion for working with veterans due to my background, but I also love working with adults and teens in varying stages of life who struggle with mental health related issues. I have a special interest in working with individuals struggling with trauma related disorders, addiction, anxiety, and depression.
I have special training in:
-
Motivational interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral based interventions in the treatment of addiction. Motivational interviewing is a goal directed and client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focused on changes in negative thought patterns and altering unwanted behavior patterns. I maintain a certification through the Illinois Certification Board for substance use disorder counseling as a Certified Alcohol and Drug abuse Counselor (CADC).
-
Intensive Training in Cognitive Processing Therapy for the treatment of PTSD and other related conditions. CPT is a cognitive behavioral therapy consisting of approximately 12 sessions. CPT does not involve repeatedly reviewing the details of your trauma(s). However, you will be asked to examine your experiences in order to understand how they have affected your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CPT is particularly effective in individuals struggling with moral injury including difficulties regulating intense feelings of shame, guilt, and anger.
